Introducing: Roamin’ Holiday

On September 10th, we finally picked up our airstream!  It was just one year earlier that we were quarantined to our house and mesmerized watching travel videos on YouTube and dreaming of the day we would travel again.  It was during this time we discovered the exciting world of traveling in an airstream.  The very next weekend we ventured out to see them for ourselves.

Roamin’ Holiday!

25’ Airstream International

We drove to Airstream of SWFL and the lot was surprisingly full of airstreams. We went in one after another - Flying Clouds, Internationals, Globetrotters and Classics in all different sizes and interior colors.  It was so much fun as we imagined ourselves traveling in this little silver bullet.  On our first trip to the dealership, we fell in love with the brand new 25’ International with a white and Tiffany blue interior and a  herringbone wood floor.  She was absolutely darling but unfortunately already sold.  A few weeks later after watching vlog after vlog of the different Airstream trailer tours, we were intrigued by the Globetrotter. Since she was a little bit more money than the international - we were determined the 23’ would be a perfect compromised.  However, when we went back to the dealership the lot was now very sparse and it was becoming apparent that we would now have to custom order. After more research to ensure we would pick the absolutely perfect one, we determined we ultimately needed more space with two large dogs.  On October 10th, we ordered our 25’ Globetrotter in the elegant Copenhagen Cream color scheme with two twin beds in the front and lots of windows.  We loved that the current model would have the new seamless luxury woven vinyl floors to protect against water damage and the new tankless water heater.  We also ordered two air conditioners, solar panels and the convection microwave.  Little did we know that it would take a few weeks short of a year to get her.

We never thought the day would ever arrive, but on August 31, 2021 we got the call that our airstream made it to Southwest Florida and we had 10 days till we would pick her up.  We upgraded to the lithium batteries and added an Equalizer hitch system.

On Friday September 10th, after a restless night, we were pulling into the dealership and seeing her for the first time.  It was love at first sight.  She was precious and as soon as we stepped inside we knew we were home.  (We have had her for six months now and we still have that same feeling!)

We spent the entire day with the Airstream trainer, who taught us everything there was to know about operating her.  Since we have already watched a years worth of videos, it was all review but rewarding to experience it all first hand on our airstream.  Lee and I made it a point to both learn how to do everything inside and outside and to this day we are still both tag teaming in and out.  I can’t wait to share with you the things we learned and our set up and break down systems.

During our day, we added a rain protection guard to our fantastic fan, so we can travel with it open, and shopped for all the essentials that we didn’t purchase in advance. Later, I will share the essential things you will need to purchase for your airstream.  I have some favorite things.

Stocking up with essentials for our 1st trip

We hitched up for the first time and off we went to the Seminole RV Park for our first night close to the dealership.  We were on cloud 9, but exhausted and tired as well as a little nervous having her on our own.  We both helped with unhitching, leveling and plugging her into electricity and water for the first time. Lee unloaded the truck and got us dinner, while I unpacked, stored everything away and made the beds. It was a flawless night and we slept very well in her.

The next morning we traveled to a new RV park close to home so we could get the pups used to her and introduce her to our family.  It was during this week that we worked out all the kinks, read all the manuals, fine tuned our skills as well as enjoyed our time walking the dogs and making diner in our lil kitchen.  I felt like a little girl playing with my easy bake oven.   During our first rain storm - we discovered the seal around one window was leaking and the bathroom door wasn’t shutting properly so after our week was up we headed back to the dealership and had her serviced before we headed to North Florida to store her away.

Roamin’ Holiday getting her first service.

During the long drive, we tossed tons of names around and vetoed every idea that came to mind - but as we pulled onto our street Lee came up with Roamin’ Holiday, and we both knew that was to be her name. While in Rome - we went to every site that Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck visited in our absolutely favorite movie- Roman Holiday.  Traveling internationally is now a thing of the past as we roam America on our holidays. Stay tuned for lots of airstream adventures on - Roamin’ Holiday!

Much Love, Cara
